This title brings together all the known supernatural tales by Gilchrest in a single volume. His work includes a single contribution to The Yellow Book with the little known vampire story, "The Crimson Weaver". In 1894 he published a highly regarded volume of short fiction, "The Stone Dragon". After this much of his attention went to to stories about the Peak District and his topographical studies, he did however publish a few more weird tales including "Lords and Ladies" in Hurst & Blackett 1903 and 6 weird tales in the June 2005 issue of The London Magazine. None of the latter was mentioned or included in his posthumous collection "A Peakland Faggot". The Basilisk brings together all the known weird tales penned by Gilchrist. The Ash-Tree edition was limited to 500 copies. Both the book and jacket are as new, the jacket now with an archival cover. A beautiful, untouched copy as good as it gets.
