The Secret Agent
Methuen, 1907. One of Conrad's later political novels, moving away from his tales of seafaring. set in Soho, London the novel deals with anachism, espionage and terrorism. This is a copy of the first issue with 40pp of adverts in the back dated September 1907. It also has the "be be" duplication on page 117. Widely quoted as one of 2500 copies, 1500 for domestic use, 500 for Canada and 500 for the colonies, the publisher however used the extra copies for the domestic market. Quill and Brush claims 2000 copies (1500 domestic + 500 colonies) A very good copy, sunning of the spine, some fading to boards. Michael Scott ex-libirs on front endpaper. Michael Scott was a well known South African collector, the majority of his collection was donated to the University of Stellenbosch, hinge showing on the half title place but holding. Light spotting early and later in book, but generally clean. Item #30006
