Jeppe's Map of the Transvaal or S.A. Republic and Surrounding Territories
London: Stanford, 1899. An uncommon complete set of the famous Jeppe's Map. Considered the finest map of the Transvaal it was issued shortly before the outbreak of the Second Boer War. Due to its importance the British tried to ban the map with many being destroyed. The map was used by both the British and the Boers during the war. Jeppe became terminally ill before publication and the project was completed by his son Charles with the assistance of Friedrich Bernard Rissik. The map was printed in Switzerland by Jacob Schlumpf on waxed silk using a chromolithography method. Uncommon to find a complete set with the original maps with the original cardboards holder. Maps generally near fine with ownership name at the top of each map. Cardboard case showing wear but intact. Item #30064
