Gollancz, 1953. Gordimer first published novel, taking place in her hometown of Springs, a mining town near Johannesburg. Arguably semi-autobiographical looking at the growing political awareness of a young white woman in South Africa. Gordimer was a well known political activist and winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1991. This copy better than most with a near fine DJ, slight browning of spine and small chips and closed tear at top of spine. VG+ book signed by Gordimer on ffep, some toning on endpapers and ownership stamp on ffep. Item #30611
