C3 Etching These man-eating birds had beaks and claws of bronze and inhabited a marsh near Lake Stymphalia. Athena gave Hercules a pair of bronze krotala (noise-making clappers/castanets) made by Hephaestus. The noise scared the birds into the air, allowing Hercules to shoot them down with his arrows.
