Carl Peter Thunberg was a Swedish naturalist who studied under Carl Linnaeus at Uppsala University. He then spend seven years travelling inSouthern Africa, Asia collecting and describing many plant and animal species new to European science. He is called "the father of South African Botany", "pioneer of Occidental Medicine in Japan".
