Plate 307 Protea Globosa (Glove-flowered Protea)

T. Bensley, 1797-1815. Print from "The Botanist's Repository, Comprising Colour'd Engravings of New and Rare Plants" a monumental 10-volume work published by English artist and engraver Henry Cranke Andrews between 1797 and 1812 (with some parts issued until 1815). These prints are highly regarded for their artistic, hand-colored quality, which was intended to resemble watercolor drawings rather than traditional engravings. Protea is a genus of South African flowering plants, also called sugarbushes. It is the type genus of the Proteaceae family. About 92% of the species occur only in the Cape Floristic Region, a narrow belt of mountainous coastal land from Clanwilliam to Grahamstown, South Africa. Native to the Cape of Good Hope 265 by 210mm (10½ by 8¼ inches). Item #32722
