L.B. Seeley, 1818. Quarto, vii + 406pp, contemporary half-red morocco over cloth boards, spine in gilt. Spine rubbed with minor losses with some stains on boards and edgewear. New marbled endpapers, title page with some paper repairs. Some staining early, but generally clean internally. Contains 16 plates, 12 hand-coloured aquatints + 4 black and white plates, after Latrobe own sketches, map bound to the back. Plates all bright. An account of Latrobe's visit to South African on request from the Directors of the Missions of the "United Brethren" for a minister to visit the settlements. Latrobe was sselected for the service and left England on Oct 1st 1815. The Governor of the Cape expressed a wish for a third station to be opened, Latrobe travelled through a large part of the country up to the Fish River, eventually choosing "Witte Revier" in the Albany District for the new station.
