Bryden acted as general editor, but with major contributions by Richard Lydekker and also contributions by many of the greatest hunters and explorers of the period. A limited edition, signed by the publisher Rowland Ward, this being #479 of 500 copies. Original publisher green cloth with lettering in gold. It includes 15 hand coloured plates and text illustrations and black and white photos throughout. It includes appendix for Ward's Reedbuck in back as well the 9 page supplement to great and small game of africa (The Giraffe Tribe), toaccount for the newly discovered Okapi. The book is in VG or better condition, some general wear to the boards, with slight downturn of the corners. Internally book is in near fine condition. Provenance - Bookplate for Esmond and Chryssee Martin in the front, the husband and wife research partners based in Nairobi, Kenya. Esmond was an American conservationist, particularly known for his work in stopping the illegal trade of ivory and rhinoceros horns. Martin was stab to death in his Nairobi home in 2018 under suspious circumstances, possibly due to his work on combating the illegal trade in ivory and rhino horn. VG. Item #9390
